When Erin Sawyer, then Erin Brooks, was a mechanical engineering student at the University of Michigan, she benefited from the generosity of a scholarship for her education. That degree played a key role in her now impressive career including roles at Honeywell, Tesla (love the Model X? Thank Erin!), and now as a venture partner at VoLo Earth Ventures.
Paying it forward, Erin has been engaged as a judge on the scholarship committee for the Society of Women Engineers for over 20 years. Those experiences were moving but there was still more to be done to bridge the gap in representation of women in engineering. This summer Erin generously announced the endowment of the Erin E. Sawyer Scholarship for women engineering students. This scholarship, which she plans to continue to grow in the coming years, will enable the next generation in core fields like mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering.
